Our Founding

First Worship service

Melvin and Anna Mae Griffin

Melvin and Anna Mae Griffin

Our congregation held its first worship service on October 9, 1983, following 24,000 direct mail brochures and 1,000 visits by Pastor/Developer Don Lynn. The congregation met for its first 12 months in what what was known as the Trice Estate, located at 15000 N. Western Avenue. The first worship service was attended by 113 people, 20 of whom signed on as charter members.

Two of those charter members were Melvin and Anna Mae Griffin, who in November 1984 deeded ten acres to build a new church at our present location of 1400 NW 178th Street. The congregation moved its worship services to the cafeteria at Charles Haskell Elementary School in November 1984 and worshiped there until moving into the new church building in September 1985.

Recognized Congregation

The congregation became an officially recognized congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) during Easter Sunday worship services on April 7, 1985. The charter was closed with 103 members. We were the first congregation started under Church Advance Now, a Disciples program to start 100 new congregations. Don Lynn was installed as the first minister on May 19, 1985.

NEW GROWTH

Remodeling

Open and Affirming

Open and Affirming

The congregation remodeled the church building in 2008-2009 to add a pitched roof, brick on the exterior walls, drywall on the interior walls, a steeple and a front porch. A new monument sign with a marquee was built on the road. A dedication ceremony for the remodeled building was held on March 1, 2009. New pews were installed in December 2014 as a gift from First Christian Church of Kaw City.

Open and Affirming

Open and Affirming

Open and Affirming

The congregation voted unanimously on March 25, 2012, to become an Open and Affirming congregation and to adopt an Open and Affirming covenant. We believe that each person is a child of God; we recognize the human body and sexuality as a gift of God, not something to be ashamed of.

Mother's Day Out

Open and Affirming

Mother's Day Out

Disciples Edmond Preschool/Mother's Day Out was opened in August 2012 for children from ages 2 1/2 through 5. Our co-minister, Mary Heath, is the Director. Classes run from August through May.  We added Grade School Distance Learning in fall 2019 for students in grades K-3 who are taking classes remotely from Edmond and Deer Creek Public Schools.

Green Chalice

New Beginnings

Mother's Day Out

A Green Team was formed in summer 2013 to explore practices that the congregation could adopt to become better stewards of the environment. The Green Team adopted the Alverna Covenant during worship on November 3, 2013, and the congregation was recognized by Disciples Home Missions as a Green Chalice congregation.

New Beginnings

New Beginnings

New Beginnings

We began the Transformation process in October 2018 with Hope Partnership of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We meet in house meetings to discuss a vision for our congregation. At a congregational meeting in December 2020, we adopted three Future Stories of where our congregation hopes to be in 2026.

Transformation

New Beginnings

New Beginnings

We celebrated the 40th anniversary of Edmond Trinity Christian Church and the launching of Disciples Christian Church on Oct 8 2024. We changed the name of the congregation to Disciples Christian Church to celebrate our heritage as Disciples of Christ. We completed the New Beginnings process by selling five acres of land, building a new driveway and parking lot off NW 178th Street, putting an LED sign on the road and installing a new sound and video system in the sanctuary.
